Zambia: Deceased Spymaster Samuel Nkhoma Cautioned ex-President Lungu that Intelligence Indicated He Would Lose 2021 Election, and He Did!

Deceased ex- Zambia Security and Intelligence Services (ZSIS) Director General Samuel Nkhoma, who died of COVID-19 in August last year, is said to have told former President Edgar Lungu in numerous presidential security daily briefs that his chances of winning the 2021 Presidential election were next to none.

"Several Presidential daily briefs consistently indicated that Mr Lungu stood no chance of winning the elections...The ruling party is however determined to win by any necessary means..." said the sources.

Almost a year later, in August this year, Lungu lost the election to his main opponent, Hakainde Hichilema, by a landslide - more than a million votes.

Although at the time of DG Nkhoma's demise it was understood that his then deputy Hector Sikazwe "stood no chance to take over the top post because a clique within Lungu's Patriotic Front believed he could not help them to win them the 2021 presidential elections," he went on to become a spymaster.

Sikazwe was recently fired by President Hichilema. His deputy, Edith Banda Mwenya, got a boot too. Friday Nyambe, former ambassador to DR Congo was appointed the new DG with Friday Mwale hus deputy.
