Rwanda to Uganda: “Thank you for the Special Message but We Want Concrete Action”

The Rwanda government spokesperson, Yolande Makolo has said while efforts to repair the relationship between Kigali and Kampala are welcome, Uganda must do more beyond sending special messages.

Her comment came hours after Adonia Ayebare, Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the UN delivered to President Paul Kagame a special message from President Museveni.

The content of the message remains unknown but it is highly believed that it relates to the standoff between the two countries which was triggered by Rwanda’s decision to close its border with Uganda in 2019.

Without adducing evidence, Makolo claimed that harassment of innocent Rwandans in Uganda continues.

In the aftermath minister of state for International Relations Henry Okello Oryem told the government newspaper, The New Vision that Uganda and Rwanda are not enemies.“Disagreements are not new in diplomacy. We are not enemies with Rwanda. Disagreements do not mean we will not work together,” he said.Ayebare declined to give more details about his meeting with Kagame without first briefing the president.
